ABOUT US
OUR
MISSION
1. Getting More People Riding Motorcycles
At Begin Off Road, we’re on a mission to get more people riding motorcycles. We want to make it easier and more accessible for people to just try it. Off Road is the perfect place to start.
2. Promote Education
Once we have a reason to learn, it becomes something we crave. We use Motorcycles as an engaging way to prove that you can turn anything into your superpower.
Read “Our Story” below to find out how these missions came about.
OUR STORY
From back of the class Kid to Passionate Educator
Hi, I’m James, and my journey with motorcycles started very, very slowly (about as slow a Honda C90 with no gear shifter). My parents knew absolutely nothing about motorbikes and I had nobody close to me that had one – but somehow, motorbikes sparked something
in me that would change my life!
I started by cobbling together £100 of my own cash and purchased a scrap worthy Honda C90. I rode it in some very random and unsuitable places but I proved to my parents that this wasn’t a fad!
At about 12 years old, I convinced my parents to buy me a motocross bike (and all the clobber). It wasn’t easy, and it was a big commitment for them. I then had to figure out how to race motocross. Not just the riding side of things but everything that goes
with it. Bike maintenance, where to actually find an event, how to get there, everything! I figured things out myself, through trial and error. If that didn’t work, I forced myself to do the things I was not comfortable doing. I was extremely shy and socially
awkward, but I needed other people to help me, I needed to put myself out there. Motocross became the reason, and I could do anything! To this day, it still drives me. It forces me to go to networking events (I’m still socially awkward) or talk to hundreds
of students in an assembly, it makes me push through all the rejection and obstacles to make this business better and reach more people.
Looking back, I wasn’t a great student at school. I didn’t apply myself to anything academically. Much later in life, I had a revelation that hit me hard:
every single subject I’d dismissed could have benefited me in ways I had never imagined.
That’s when Begin Off Road was truly born – not just as a business, but as a mission.
WHY WE
DO IT
Making It Easier for Everyone
I remember how overwhelming it felt just to get to the stage of having my own motorbike. I want to make it easier for people to have a go at riding
without having to commit fully from day one. You don’t need to buy a bike, find gear, or figure out where to ride safely. We provide everything – the bikes, the equipment, the expertise, and most importantly, the encouragement.
Engaging Children with Education
It goes deeper than just riding. I’ve seen firsthand how motorcycles can be incredible tools for education. When children are engaged with something, learning becomes natural. Suddenly, understanding how things work matters. Physics isn’t boring – it’s the
difference between taking a corner smoothly or not. Problem solving becomes essential, not theoretical.
We work with schools and education providers because we know that off-road motorcycling can unlock learning in ways traditional classrooms sometimes can’t or back up what is in the classroom. For children who struggle to engage with conventional education (like
I did) this can be a particularly beneficial environment that opens everything up for them.
TODAY
From Personal Struggle to Shared Success
Every rider who leaves our sessions with a huge grin and newfound confidence reminds me why this matters. Whether it’s a nervous 4-year-old taking their first ride, a family creating memories together, or an adult rediscovering their adventurous side – we’re
not just teaching people to ride, we’re showing them that learning can be exciting, that challenges can be conquered, and that sometimes the best classroom is 1,000 acres of trails at Weston Park.
Because everyone deserves the chance to discover what I found on that first bike – that with the right support, you can learn anything.
